PUZZLE PART A
This is a greenish fresh water lens on a permeable yellowish island
in the deep blue sea. The red water particle (fresh water) has just reached
the water table. What path does it take on its way to the sea? Assume constant
recharge maintains the lens in a steady state. HINT: red fresh water particle
does not follow water table to sea.
PUZZLE PART B
Where does the purple fresh water particle come from and how long has
it been there? Does it move? Remember this lens has constant uniform recharge
and discharges to the sea. And the sea water-fresh water interface is stable.
Correct answer to either Part A or Part B gets you a free one
