TOMSK GEOMONITORING

The Territorial Centre Tomsk Geomonitoring is the firm authorized by Ministry of Natural resources of Russia and the administration of the Tomsk area for running the state monitoring of geological environment (groundwater and exogenic geological processes), and also water system in territory of Tomsk area.

The monitoring system is based on results of long term observation of levels of underground waters, chemical composition of superficial and underground waters and discharge of sewage by industrial works in superficial flows and reservoirs. The Observations have also been taken for the development of natural and technogenic exogenic geological processes such as landslides, formation of ravines, erosion of rivers banks etc. Damages from these processes are estimated.

The basic task of monitoring consists of reception of authentic information with the purpose of study, analysis, forecasting and development of recommendations to authorities for acceptance of the administrative decisions on rational use of the geological and natural environment. Monitoring is conducted on the basis of modern computer technologies with application to geoinformation systems.

Specialized databases are managed by MS Acces 97, Oracle 7.3, GIS MapInfo 4.1, ArcView Gis 3.0, Spatial Analyst MicroStation 95, and other specialized software for making thematic electronic numerical maps. By means of these programs we are estimating the state of the environment under natural and technogenic conditions.
